Advocacy team member role description 2026

We are currently looking for those who are wanting to drive gender justice through the law, with experience or interest in law reform to join our Advocacy Team. As part of the Advocacy Team, you will be working with Sophie Vreeburg and Beth Murfitt, our Advocacy Managers, to advance kaupapa for the Journal including drafting submissions, creating public-facing education and events, as well as contributing to our podcast.

The role is voluntary and ideal for people who are collaborative, driven and passionate about using the law as a tool for transformation. We especially encourage applications from those with diverse backgrounds, including those with an understanding of te ao Māori and tikanga Māori.

In terms of time commitment, on average, you can expect to dedicate three to four hours of work per week throughout the year, with some weeks requiring more or less work.

To join our Advocacy Team, please send your CV and a brief paragraph setting out why you would like to join the team to Sophie and Beth at advocacy.nzwlj@gmail.com by 7pm on Monday, 6 July 2026.

As part of your expression of interest, please indicate which area of the team's work appeals most to you (e.g. submissions, educational initiatives, podcast) and any particular gender justice issues you are passionate about. For more information about the law reform projects and issues we have worked on previously, please see the Advocacy page. Proposals for new initiatives for the Advocacy Team are also welcomed.

Tēnā whakapā mai mēnā he pātai ā koutou. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Sophie and Beth at advocacy.nzwlj@gmail.com with any questions on the role. We would love to hear from you.
